Comparison of efficacy of two different coblation techniques for the treatment of snoring : a cut above the rest

Background / Am : to compare the outcomes of a Collation Assisted Uvulae la to pasty (CAUP) with standard Collation techniques, in the treatment of simple snoring.

Method : Prospective observational non-randomized cohort study.

Results : 9 patients (6 men, 3 women) underwent CAUP and completed follow-up.

The results were compared with a group treated with standard Collation.

The mean reduction in the Snoring Symptoms Inventory (SSI) was 21.7 (standard deviation + 24.81).

Approximately 66 % achieved a significant fall in SSI (> 15 points) which was significantly more than standard techniques (p = 0.022).

The effect size was 1.67 for the new collation technique which represents a large impact and is larger than previously calculated for standard Collation or Laser Assisted Uvulopalatoplasty (LAUP).

Conclusions : CAUP may be superior to standard collation techniques and for simple snoring.

A larger study is required.
