Blood and its products transfusion has risk far patients, so different methods are used to reduce bleeding and Traneyamic Acid (TA) is one, which has been used successfully in liver surgery and total knee arthroplasty.

It is not expensive and does not have serious side effects.

Studies on this drug in spine surgery are limited, Sixty patients 25-45 yrs of age were given randomly either tranexamic acid (10 mg/kg that was infused in half an hour) or placebo (Isotonic saim).
