الملخص الإنجليزي
The purpose of the current study is to investigate the effect of the computer chatting in the development of tenth grade students' reading and writing skills of English language.
To achieve of the study purpose, the researcher employed chatting software (Vypress Chat) to examine the effect of using the chatting as a new mode to develop the reading and writing skills.
The study sought to answer the following three questions : 1.
Are there any statistically significant differences (a = 0.05) between the achievement of the experimental group (computer chatting) and the control group (traditional method) in the reading skill? 2.
Are there any statistically significant differences (a = 0.05) between the achievement of the experimental group (computer chatting) and the control group (traditional method) in the writing skill? The population of the present study consisted of (303) tenth grade students at all-male public schools in Dhiban Directorate of Education for the scholastic year 2005 / 2006.
The sample consisted of (40) male students, purposefully selected from the study's population.
It was divided equally into two groups (experimental and control).
: The findings of the study revealed that 1.
There were statistically significant differences (a = 0.05) between the achievement of the experimental and the control group in the reading skill in favor of the experimental group which taught via the computer chatting.
2.
There were statistically significant differences (a = 0.05) between the achievement of the experimental and the control group in the writing skill in favor of the experimental group which taught via the computer chatting.
In the light of the findings of the study, the researcher recommended the following : The computer chatting should be introduced as a major tool for teaching reading and writing skills.
