الملخص الإنجليزي

Sixty four mastitis milk samples were collected from 34 goats and 30 Awassi sheep in an attempt to determine the causative agents for clinical mastitis in goat and sheep attended Brooke Hospital for Animals, Petra, and South Jordan.

Milk samples were inoculated aseptically on to various isolation media and incubated aerobically at 37° C for 48 hrs.

Gram-positive and Gram-negative bacteria were recovered from all examined milk samples.

The isolates were Staphylococci (44.5 % of the total isolates) of which Staphylococcus aureus comprised 28 %, whereas, the recovery of coagulase negative staphylococci were 16.5 %.

Corynebacterium spp.

(5 %), Bacillus cereus and Bacillus pummel's (2.5 % each), Bacillus sphaericus (3.5 %) and other Bacillus spp.

(5 %).

The high incidence rate of Gram-negative bacteria was shown by Pseudomonas aeruginosa (7 %) followed by Klebsiella oxytocin (5.5 %) then Serratia marcescens biogpl (4 %) and E.

coli (3 %).

Other Gram negative bacteria were also recovered but with very low rate, and these included Actinobacillus spp., Acinetobacter baumannii, Acinetobacter calcoaceticus, Acinetobacter Iwoffi, B Cepacia, Enterobacter agglomerans, E.

cloacae, Hafnia alvei biogp 1, Klebsiella ozaenae, Klebsiella oxytoca, Pseudomonas aeruginosa, Pseudomonas fluorescens, Pseudomonas fluorescens-25, Serratia marcescens, Serratia marcescens biogpl, and Xanthomonas maltophilia.

The antibiotics that showed greatest effect against Staphylococcus and Bacillus isolates were Co-rrimoxazole (25 ug /disc) and Oxytetracyclin (30 ug /disc).

The aim of this study was to detect the bacteria causing clinical mastitis in goats and sheep, and to determine the sensitivity of the pathogenic bacteria to various antibiotics, and also to see whether there is any relationship between the causative agent of mastitis and the hosts of goats and sheep.
