Effect of newly prepared compound in induced diabetic and hyperlipidemic albino rats

The present study aims to investigate the hypolipidemic effect of N-[4-benzoylphcny] indole-2-carboxamide on three animal models of experimental rats.

The first model was hyperlipidemic diet rats induced by diet.

The rats were given fatty diet, which was prepared by mixing 0.5 % cholesterol, 1 / 4 % cholic acid fat, and 2 % corn oil with standard powdered animal's food for two months.

In the second hyperlipidemic triton rat model, the hyperlipidemia was induced by injection (i.p) with Triton WR-1339 (250 mg / kg body weight).

Both models have shown significant increase in serum cholesterol, LDL, triglyceride, and decrease HDL levels, compared to control group upon diet or triton treatment.

In the third model, the diabetic rats were induced by injection (i.p) with alloxan (150 mg / kg body weight).

The rats were shown significant (P < 0.05) increase in the glucose level in alloxan treated rats compared to control group.

After treated with N-[4-benzoylphenyl]-l-indole-2-carboxamide (15mg / kg body weight), the hyperlipidemic models showed significant decrease (p < 0.05) in serum cholesterol, LDL, triglyceride, and increase HDL levels compared to hyperlipidemic groups.

However, the effect of N-[4-benzoylphenyl]- indole-2-carboxamide (15mg / kg body weight) was not significant (p < 0.05) in diabetic group rats induced by alloxan.

In conclusion, the new compound proved to be potential antihyperlipidimic agent.
