New anticestodal drugs-efficacy, toxicity and structure activity relationship of some derivatives of the open lactam form of praziquantel (n-sulphanilamidocoo-alkyl)‎

One hundred and sixty, 21 days old male Bovans type chicks in eight groups were infected with R.

tetragona cysticercoids.

Five groups were treated with the Nsulphanilamido / COO-alkyl derivatives of the open lactam form of praziquantel (OLFPZQ) in oral dose of 20 mg / kg body weight on day 21 and on day 24 post infection.

In groups 4, 5, 6, 7 and 8, the tested compounds showed efficacy of 26, 44, 30, 14 and 70 % after the first dose and of 46, 70, 40, 40 and 86 % after the second dose respectively.

Histopathological, haematological, and biochemical alterations were evalu-ated.

Neither morbidity nor mortality was observed in the birds treated with the different compounds.
