Effects of locally formulated and imported feeds on the growth and survival of penaeid post larvae from the Red Sea

An experiment was conducted to evaluate the performance of feed manufactured locally versus imported shrimp feed on the growth and survival of Penaeus indicus and Penaeus semisulcatus.

No significant difference was found on the growth of the penaeid shrimps (within species or between the two species).

The survival of Penaeus indicus was significantly higher when fed with imported feed (P < 0.05).

On the other hand, Penaeus semisulcatus had a poor survival rate.
