الملخص EN

Atopic dermatitis is a chronically relapsing pruritic skin condition based on multifactorial genetic predisposition.

sE-selectin may be the most sensitive and useful ' in monitoring the activity and clinical course of AD.

Studies support sE-selectin as a ٨١^^٢ for AD So determination of the level of adhesion molecules particularly E seleetin and there corcelation with the activity and severity of AD may help in understanding of these disease and may lead to new strategies in treatment.

Aim of the work: Estimation of the serum level of sE-selectin, !gE and correlation of their levels with the severity of the disease in AD patients.

Methods and subjects: Thirty patients of both sexs with atopic dermatitis (mean age 6.5±2.6),Ten healthy, sex-matched subjects (mean age (6.7±3.1) were included in this analytic study.

None of the patients W'ere treated with systemic steroids.

Twenty eight of the patients were treated with local srteroid ointment, and twenty-three were taking antihistamine drugs.

Total IgE was measured by using Soluble E-seJectin was determined by sandwich ELJSA.

Results: Serum sE-selectin and IgE of AD patients was significantly greater than that of the normal control subjects and correlate with the severity of atopic dermatitis.

The levels of sE-selectin correlate with IgE levels.

Conclusion: Although sE-selectin is not specific for AD, It is a useful immunological marker tor monitoring disease severity.

Further studies are needed to assess the role of sE-selectin in atopic dermatitis to help understanbding its pathogenesis and if sE-selectin could be used as indicator for the prognosis of AD and its role in the stratigy of AD treatment.
