الملخص الإنجليزي

The study examined the subject of Emotional Intelligence as a required skill for leaders.

Emotional intelligence is found to be indicative to the style of leadership, also indicative to define distinguished or star leaders, versus regular leaders.

The importance of this study is the first to be conducted in Jordan, to the best knowledge of the researcher, which comprises a different cultural context to where previous researches have been conducted.

This study includes five hypotheses, which are: 1) There is no relationship between styles of leadership and emotional intelligence.

2) There is no relationship between gender and emotional intelligence.

3) There is no relationship between emotional intelligence and performance.

4) There is no relationship between leadership and performance.

5) There is no relationship between training and performance.

The results of the study were as follows: 1) There is a significant and clear relationship between emotional intelligence and styles of leadership.

2) There is a relationship between Gender and emotional intelligence.

3) There is a weak relationship between emotional intelligence and performance.

4) The study showed no relationship between leadership and performance.

5) The study showed no relation between training and performance.

Based on the study outcome, the researcher suggested the following recommendations.

1) Introduce the concept of soft skills, technical skills, and cognitive skills.

2) Restructure the interview process, and the content of the interview, and emphasise on emotional intelligence skills.

3) Introduce training modules that train on developing, refining and enhancing emotional intelligence competencies.

4) Introduce cross gender training, to compliment current emotional competencies.

5) Implement new method(s) for evaluating performance in the organisation to enable them to properly identify the reason (s) for the outcome.
