الملخص الإنجليزي

This project aims at investigating an international business issue: verbal international communication in the business realm.

The central concept that the present study explores is how cultural differences influence the conduct of verbal international business communication.

The example I dealt with involved two players, Morocco and Great Britain.

For this purpose, the first part pinpoints previous research relevant to international business communication with a close focus on some cultural differences that affect the conduct of verbal international communication in the business arena.

The second part provides a close focus on fieldwork research I carried out in a multinational textile company in Casablanca called Marotis.

Thus, data collection was based on a case study method to closely investigate cultural dimensions affecting the conduct of communication between British and Moroccan partners.

The preliminary stage of the research consisted of interviewing Moroccan and British individuals who are currently involved in meetings or transactions between members of the two communities.

The second stage took place in the various departments of Marotis where the focus was on the process of verbal communication between Moroccans and their British counterparts.

Documents such as faxes, e-mails, and letters, as well as face-to-face interactions were all used to identify and interpret the cultural differences underlying the conduct of communication between the Moroccan and the British parties.

The results of the research have revealed that language barriers, cultural differences and adjustment difficulties are all contributing factors that impede the process of verbal communication between the British and the Moroccans in Marotis.

The company cannot achieve its full potential, unless it manages its communication problems through a thorough understanding by the two parties of each other's culture.
