الملخص الإنجليزي

Several of N-maleanilic acids have been prepared by simple, clean and economic solid phase reaction between maleic anhydride and a series of aniline derivatives.

FT-IR, 1H-NMR and 13C-NMR Spectra which reveals the confirmation of these compounds in good agreement A series of N-arylmaleimides has been prepared and characterized from the maleanilic acids and copolymerized with acrylonitrile, allyl cyanide and allylbenzene.

These N-arylmaleimides were randomly copolymerized with acrylonitrile.

1H-NMR and CHN analysis showed that an alternative copolymers were achieved from the copolymerization of these maleimides with both allyl cyanide and allylbenzene monomers.

The UV measurements showed a red shift at 258 nm for the equimolar solution mixture of N-(4- methylphenyl)maleimide/allylbenzene, indicating that the copolymerization of these two monomers proceed according to the charge transfer complex mechanism Thermal analysis of the resulting copolymers showed that the copolymers are more stable than N-phenylmaleimide homopolymer, and it was also found that the presence of 12.5 % N-(2,4-dinitrophenyl)maleimide in poly [N-(2,4-dinitrophenyl)- CO-acrylonitrile] resulted in raising the thermal decomposition temperature of poly(acrylonitrile) from 308 oC to more than 500 oC.

The viscosity measurements of the copolymers showed their behaviors by increasing the viscosity of the solvent in which they were dissolved.

A number of N-arylmaleimide base anion-exchange resins were prepared by chloromethylation of N-arylmaleimide/allylbenzene linear copolymer, and the treatment of the chloromethylated product with ethylenediamine to create the active site and the crosslinking of these copolymers.

The anion exchangers showed no solubility in water or most common solvents such as benzene, toluene, methanol, ethanol and chloroform.

The anion-exchangers exhibited an exchange capacity from 2.165-2.705 m.eq/g resin, to show good agreements with relative commercial anion exchange resins.

Thermal analysis of these anion exchangers showed high thermal stability, in which these exchangers are enable to operate at an operating temperature that is more than those of commercial anion exchange resins.
