Morphological study and prevalence of head lice (Pediculus humanus capitis)‎ (anoplura : pediculidae)‎ infestation among some primary school students in Erbil City, Kurdistan Region

The current research includes the study of the external morphology and the prevalence of head lice, Pediculus humanus capitis De Geer infestation in the Erbil City.

A total of 500 students among 6-11 years old were examined from October 2013 to May 2014 and 14 % prevalence of head lice infestation was observed.

The prevalence of infestation was significantly higher (p < 0.05) in 6-7 years aged students 27 % and the prevalence was significantly (p < 0.05) higher in girls 21 % than boys 6%.

The infestation rate was significantly higher in students with long (59 %) and medium-length (30 %) hair than in students with short hair 18 %.
