The current research includes the study of the external morphology and the prevalence of head lice, Pediculus humanus capitis De Geer infestation in the Erbil City.
A total of 500 students among 6-11 years old were examined from October 2013 to May 2014 and 14 % prevalence of head lice infestation was observed.
The prevalence of infestation was significantly higher (p < 0.05) in 6-7 years aged students 27 % and the prevalence was significantly (p < 0.05) higher in girls 21 % than boys 6%.
The infestation rate was significantly higher in students with long (59 %) and medium-length (30 %) hair than in students with short hair 18 %.
