الملخص الإنجليزي

This research aims at analyzing discourse translation and the problems of translating proverbs in Arabic and English languages.

This qualitative and quantitative research includes a corpus of 20 proverbs in English language.

This study involves two research instruments that are SPSS/ textual analysis and themes that emerged based on Nida (1964) theory of translation which mainly focuses on the Dynamic and Functional equivalence of translation. This qualitative and quantitative study includes four chapters.

The first chapter discusses the theoretical background of the research.

The second chapter reviews the literature of the study.

Chapter three includes the design and methodology of the study.

Whilst, chapter four illustrates the findings, discussion and recommendations of the study.

The findings indicated that the proverb translation outcomes vary depending on whether they are at context (discourse level) or sentence level.

The finding indicated that proverb translation is not an easy task but through the translation test's answers the results proved that proverb translation at discourse level ease the task for the translators and give better results even though most of the proverbs are exposed to the translators for the first time.
