الملخص الإنجليزي

The objective of this work is to suggest a sustainable way of management and treatment of the solid waste of the city of Fez and to make the transition from a linear economic system based on “take, make, dispose” to a circular one based on 3Rs strategies “Reduce, Reuse, Recycle”.

For this reason, I did an internship of 2 months in the landfill site of Fez.

The main advantages of dumping waste in this landfill are the reduction in the quantity of waste and the production of biogas through fermentation; this landfill gas is recovered to generate electricity.

However, the problem of leachates and the emission of greenhouse gases, which contribute to global warming, make this method old and inefficient for waste management.

The biogas obtained from the landfill of Fez contributes by 25% to the public lighting of this city.

In order to increase the biogas yield and to protect the environment, a shift to a circular economy is highly recommended.

The choice of two DRANCO anaerobic digesters was fixed according to the amount of waste to be managed at the landfill, i.e.

a capacity of 120000 tons / year.

Therefore the daily amount of biogas produced by the two digesters is 13520 m3 / day.

This quantity is equivalent to a total energy of 30270MWh / year.

By the cogeneration process, the energy produced is divided between 11503 MWh / year for electrical energy with 46% for public lighting of the city of Fez, and 14227MWh / year for the thermal needs of the two digesters.

The conversion of waste into biogas and bio-fertilizer will ensure that wastes are treated in a way that they become valuable products instead of harmful ones.

The rest portion of municipal solid wastes can be recycled as circular economy promotes the recycling, reprocessing, repair, and reuse of recyclable materials and products.

The income generated by the treatment of waste in the framework of the circular economy and the sale of electricity, digestate and recyclable materials are 225,577,786 Dh, and the initial investment of this project is 915,714,308 DH with a payback period of 7 years 5 months and 7 days.
