Abstract EN

Some lexicographers regard the creation of dictionaries as a problematic issue when it comes to searching the accuracy of any given words meaning in other languages which requires its equivalent prior to the other step of creating and constructing the definition of the word itself, especially if the latter exists and is used in the other language and culture.

Since there are some words and expressions that are hard to translate for their inexistent usability in other cultures, the present paper attempts to address the first Arab lexicographers and their creation of dictionaries along with tracing the evolution of such translations that differs in both form and content.

The paper also sheds light upon the different schools of lexicography as categorized by modern lexicographers as well as delineating the basis on which they relied upon to separate and categorize these schools.
