Abstract EN

The current study aimed to examine the relationship between shyness and self-esteem and the differences between the academically compatible and the incompatible of both sexes in the variables, on a sample of male and female students (n = 300) from the third year of secondary school.

in the current study, we used the cooper-smith self-esteem scale, the Schick and Melchers (1985) shyness scale.

we also used the Youngman academic conformity scale to distribute the sample members into the category of students who are compatible and the category of students who are academically incompatible.

the results revealed the existence of a negative and statistically significant relationship between shyness and self-esteem among students who are academically compatible and incompatible.

the results also showed, that there are no differences in the level of shyness between the academically compatible and incompatible students.

as for the differences in the level of self-esteem, we note that those who are academically compatible have higher degrees compared to students who are academically incompatible, and the results have been discussed in the light of foreign and Arab studies.
