Abstract EN

This study aims at investigating effect of the method of estimating item parameters and abilities of persons on the item parameters values and the psychometric properties of test in light of sample size change.

To achieve the study objective, a 33-item achievement test of physics was constructed, and administered on the study sample of (1012) male and female twelfth grade students.

Data obtained were analyzed according to the three-parameter logistic model using Bilog-Mg programs.

The study results revealed statistically significant difference (a = 0.05) among the standard error means of item parameters estimations due to interaction of method of estimate and sample size.

However, no statistically significant difference (a —0.05) were revealed due to: sample size, method of estimate.

Results of the study also revealed statistically significant differences (a = 0.05) among the standard error means of person abilities estimations due to sample size as well as interaction of method of estimate and sample size.

However, no statistically significant differences (a" 0.05) were revealed for the estimated reliability coefficients according to item response theory for samples of (100, 500, 1000).

Also, results of the study indicated that ability parameter accuracy estimation increases in both high ability- level and low ability level samples when using (EAP), Whereas accuracy of estimation for persons with medium ability level when using (MLE) regardless of sample size.
