The aim of the current study is to make an investigation of the difficulties faced by Iraqi EFL learners at recognizing and using Catenative verbs in the target language.
Furthermore, to highlight the most effective factors that might cause the barriers to reach the efficiency level at Catenative verbs recognition and usage.
To this end, in this study, the data is based on the method of self-administered questionnaire, which is classified into two divisions: the first division involves questions about the students' backgrounds that are proposed to be related to the Catenative Verbs skills.
The second division involves the main test that has the function of diagnosing the main data of the study.
The questionnaires were administered to 65 students at the fourth stage of the English Department.
Results of the study demonstrate that those students show different performances whose majority is weak especially those who have not been spending enough time observing English contexts.
The study constitutes a value to the second language learners particularly in the EFL community.
Furthermore, the study is of significance to those who are concerned in the target field in general.
Lastly, the study draws the syllabus designer's attentions to take in their considerations this important issue of Catenative verbs
