Depuis l'antiquité, l'homme s'intéressait au langage en tant qu'outil de communication qui le distingue des autres espèces.

Un regard sur l'histoire des civilisations de différentes nations, nous permet de découvrir les traces de leurs réalisations préservées dans ce domaine tels que l'Inde, la Grèce, Rome, la Mésopotamie et le Levant.
