This study explains the origins of the Huseiyn Pasha Mekki’s family and its rise to power and authority.

It also focuses the most important events in the period of Husein Pasha rule from the province of Damascus (A.H.

1170 / 1757 A.D).

The first event concerns the conflict between the yerliya and the kapikul in Damascus.

The second one is the attack on the pilgrimage and the jerda caravans by Bedouins.

To conclude, the study discuses the end of Husein Pasha and his murder by the Bedouins.

This study is a new contribution to the current debate about the Ottoman Empire and the features of its weakness and deterioration.

It sheds light on the transfer of the power centre and the initiative from the state and its walis to the local rebellious elements (local leaders, local soldiers, and Bedouin chiefs).
