The influence of various degrees of plastic deformation by cold illing at ambient temperature on the tensile properties of AISI 304 ainless steel was investigated.
Microstructural, ferromagnetic and irdness studies were also conducted.
The material was evaluated up i 50 pet.
reduction in thickness.
The results indicate that the irmation of strain - induced martensite evidently led to a significant rengthening of the steel.
The tensile strength, the yield strength and le hardness were shown to be increased with increasing cold :duction percentage (CR%) up to 45 pet.
It was found that, the ratio f tensile strength in Mpa to Vickers hardness is approximately three >r all percentages of cold reduction.
Moreover, the percentage icrease of tensile strength from 0% CR to 50% CR is same as that f hardness.
The cold rolling of 304ss between 45% - 50% CR has negligible ifect on tensile and yield strengths of the investigated steel.
A slight 'feet on the hardness was noticed after 45 pet.
Therefore, it may be included that 304ss has undergone a state of full - hard at CR>45%.
