Effective reading activities which will improve wirting skills form the perspetive of the prearatory year program students at the department of english language and translation in Iman Mohammed Bin Saud Islamic University

Abstract EN

This paper investigates the effectiveness of some reading activities on writing skills of preparatory year Qudents at the Department of English in Imam Mohammed Bin Saud Is- lamic University.

Eighty students participated in this Qudy.

The questionnaire consisted of two sections.

The first section investi- gated the relationship between reading and writing.

The second section inveQigated the types of reading activities that might im- prove writing skills for preparatory year program (PYP) for En- glish language Students.

Saudi English beginners have displayed difficulties with writing skills.

Limited vocabulary as indicated by this Study is considered the biggest reason.

In addition, the Study revealed that Saudi Students read different types of ma- terials that might help them improve writing and that modern technology helps them in this task.

Moreover, the Study showed that Students benefit a lot from reading activities.

In the second section, Students showed that they like to use almost all types of reading activities to improve their writing.

However, the activities concerned with the type of genre are the most important, along with the reading level activities and then the poQ-read- ing activities at the end.

This paper has presented some sugges- tions for further research, such as investigating the differences between males and females as well as the difference between the Qudents' levels in the English department.

Finally, this paper presented some implications for Students, teachers, and English program planners.
