This study aims to observe the phenomenon of semantic development of words through their metaphorical uses in the light of modern semantic study, and to determine the fields of this development in our Arabic heritage, and in particular in the Assas al balagha dictionary (foundations of rhetoric) by al-Zamakhshari, where he recorded his uniqueness in the lexical studies movement by his avant-garde method of introducing distinct words between their original and metaphorical meanings, while dictionaries in their nature refer only to the reality of the situation in terms of each language.

It is an approach which starts from an investigation into the effect of linguistic and non-linguistic metaphors in the transfer of these words from their original meaning, which was to express the truth, to another sub-meaning, and how these forms of expressions orbed the renewed meanings? What are the areas and manifestations of this transition and change?
