Interpreters encounter a number of problems in rendering a source language.

And to solve them, they may make immediate decisions to omit a word or more.

This leads to a translation that may depart from the original version, and does not say exactly what the speaker said.

This paper examines the use of omission in two simultaneous interpreting, from English into Arabic, on the basis of Henri Barik’s model of departures in simultaneous interpreting (1975).

The results of this study show that due to comprehension problems and the delay in translation, interpreters often find themselves obliged to omit a word, a phrase or some important information which lead to loss of meaning.

And consequently, the quality of translation is affected.
