Abstract EN

This study is an attempt to provide a contribution to the heritage of classical Islamic scholars and contemporary academic research on the subject of the reality, importance, and impact of the specific purposes of the shariah (Islamic Law).

It includes a general explanation of the issue of worship and the reasoning behind it, an explanation of the importance of devotion of the heart, and examples of specific purposes of ritual acts of worship.

The most important purposes of worship are mentioned and discussed, with a focus on the directed purposes of three types of acts of worship: purity, prayer and supplication.

After the introduction, this study is divided in to three chapters.

The most prominent conclusions of this research are that: specific purposes of the shariah are extensions and practical applications of its general purposes, knowledge of them is a requirement for an Islamic jurist to be qualified to issue independent verdicts, central to the foundations and applications of Islamic jurisprudence, and can prevent the introduction of unwarranted innovations in to ritual worship.

Studying these purposes can increase awareness of the wisdoms of Islamic laws, analogous reasoning should not be used as evidence for rules of worship, the general purpose of all worship is to humble ourselves in devotion to Allah and it is by fulfillment of the purposes of worship that the worshipper can achieve success.
