Microselection is an important step in helping the students to master the task of identifying the main ideas and the keywords.

The learners of English language often have some difficulties to understand the meaning of main ideas because they have limited vocabularies.

Listening plays a great role in developing the students' knowledge, specifically in learning new vocabulary items that leads to the language learning.

In 1970, listening has gained its importance as a skill that takes place in language teaching programs besides speaking, reading and writing.

While the increased attention to listening happened in1990 and oral comprehension has a significant role in second language learning.

The diagnostic test has been conducted in this study and the population is all the students of English language department/college of Education/Samarra university.

The sample is the third-year students, so this experimental group includes sixty students (male and female) to find keywords and main ideas.

Wuthering Heights has been chosen for its interesting to the readers, so it includes many love relationships that leads to strengthen all the members relationship in a society.

The researcher has used three data collecting steps: a teacher is reading a passage that is taken from chapter (11) from the novel of wuthering Heights, diagnostic test and according to the interview with sixty students from the third stage at the academic year 2020/2021.

The diagnostic test presents as a passage and then two questions, each question has allotted(25) marks and the total marks are (50).

Test and retest have been done to the same sample and under the same conditions and the results of the diagnostic test refer that the third year students still having difficulties in finding keywords and main ideas.

They don't know what the main idea is and ignoring many vocabulary items that make them confusing in finding new ideas through listening skill to the reading passage.

Validity and reliability have been achieved in this study.
