Abstract EN

Objective: The objective of this study was to determine the frequency of Rh-hr phenotypes and the most probable genotypes in Jordan.

Methods: The study group consisted of 1000 Jordanians of both sexes (593 males & 407 females), from different age groups, who were selected from blood donors at King Hussein Medical Center.

Rh-hr phenotype reactivity was determined using the tube method, according to the manufacturer’s instructions from 1997 – 2000.

The Rh antigens studied were D, C, c, E, and e.

Results: The distribution of Rh antigens was as follows: D= 87.2%, which means that the percentage of Rho D negative is 12,8%, C= 67.9%, c= 80.3%, E =30.2% and e =96.6%.

The distribution of the most probable Rh genotypes was as follows: - R1r = 33.3%, R1R1 = 18.9%, R1R2 = 13.3%, R2r = 12.2%, rr = 10.4%, R2R2 = 3.2%, r?r = 0.9%, r?r = 0.5%, r?r? = 0.5%, r?r? = 0.5%, RZR1 = 0.3%, RZR2 = 0.2%.

Conclusion: This study about the distribution of Rh-hr phenotypes and genotypes in Jordan is of value in parentage testing, solving problems regarding incompatibilities, investigation of autoimmune hemolytic anemias and in studies on the origins and movements of populations.
