Abstract EN

This research aims to find out the vocabulary syllabus for teaching Arabic as a second language for adult learners, Malaysia.

Researchers have tried to answer the following questions: 1- What are the concerns of adult learners to learn Arabic vocabularies as a second language which the vocabularies selected are based on it? 2- How it is presented in course lessons?, 3- What are the appropriate syllabus to teach Arabic vocabularies for adult learners in Malaysia?.

Tools of studies have been designed and developed to be distributed to over 72 learners at the Institute for language advancement (IFLA) those who learn Arabic as a second language, and 10 lecturers there, as well as personal interview with four experts in teaching Arabic as a second language for adults.

The responses of students have been analyzed statistically using SPSS 11.5, meanwhile lecturers' answers have been analyzed by frequency of answers, and experts’ answers have been classified into themes in order to answer research questions.

Researchers found some valuable results to prepare Arabic vocabularies lessons for adult learners which are: Adult learners are facing problem with Arabic vocabularies that relates to it using in appropriate context.

Therefore, we should focus on this problem by taking into account the vocabulary uses in simple sentences in order to achieve communication goal by adult learners, and using pictures and diagrams to explain the function of the word correctly in term of context and grammar in a particular sentence, and models of Quranic verses, prophetic hadiths, and daily prayers; to achieve the goal of religion understanding, by taking into account variety of exercises
