Abstract EN

This study aimed to identify school counseling constraints at high schools of Al-Mashanna and Al-Dhehar Districts, Ibb Governorate, from the perspective of social workers and psychologists working at those schools equipped with counseling units.

The study population consisted of (21) school counselors working in such schools in both districts of Al-Mashanna and Al-Dhehar who were taken as a sample for this study in the school year 2017-2018.

A 58-item questionnaire was designed by the researcher; each item included three alternatives (Yes, Sometimes, No) distributed over four areas: personal readiness, academic and professional preparation, professional environment, and legal and legislative aspects.

The researcher adopted the computerized statistical methods of the SPSS program, including Pearson Correlation, Mann- Whitney Test, Mean, Standard Deviation, and percentages.

The findings of the study revealed that there were a number of constraints that obstruct practicing the professional process of school counseling, namely personal readiness, academic and professional preparation, professional environment, and legal and legislative aspects.

The professional environment and the legal and legislative aspects showed the most significant constraints, respectively.

Finally, there were no statistically significant differences between the variables of the study: gender, experience, and specialization.
