Abstract EN
A field experiment of spilt-spilt plot order was conducted according to the Randomized Complete Block Design (RCBD) in a field affiliated to the College of Agricultural Engineering Sciences during the fall season 2019 to investigate the effect of adding humic acid and foliar application of anti-transpiration on the sunflower plants, variety Shumoos, under the water stress condition.
The main plots were devoted to water stress treatments (appliying water after 50% and 80% deplation of available water.
The sub-plots comprised the humic acid treatments involving 0 and 50 kg ha-1, and the sub-sub-plots represented foliar application of kaolin clay, potassium silicate, and paraffin wax as an anti-transpiration at the concentrations of 2% , 1% , and 1% , respectively, in addition to control (water only).
Results showed significant superiority of applying water at 50% deplation in most studied traits involving the plant height (212.80 cm), leaf area (0.630m2), 1000-seeds weight (133.25 g), plant yield (138.83g plant-1), and water use efficiency (2.44 kg m-3) compared to the control treatment plant height(193.0 cm), leaf area (0.358 m2), 1000-seeds weight(109.50 g), plant yield (112.93 g plant-1), and water use efficiency (2.02 kg m-3).
foliar application of potassium silicate was superior in most traits including the leaf area (0.507m-2), 1000-seeds weight(132.25g), plant yield (143.13g plant-1), and water use efficiency (2.54 kg m-3) compared to the control treatment leaf area(0.479m2), 1000-seeds weight(114.0 g), plant yield(112.10 g plant-1), and water use efficiency (1.92 kg m-3).
