the importance of education in the intellectual and philosophical circles, as a spiritual and material nourishment for the learner, prompted many, including Bertrand Russell, the subject of our research paper, to discuss this issue from different sides.

Especially the margin of learner's freedom on the one hand, and the element of order and guidance on the other hand.

Through this research paper, we try to define the limits of relationship between freedom & authority in education of Bertrand Russell philosophy, if the education of the individual requires a big margin of freedom, the education of citizen requires an intervention in his freedom to achieve the aims of education.

Man is an individual and a citizen in the same time; he cannot sacrifice his individuality or give up his duties as a citizen.

in this way is it possible for education to preserve his freedom and obligate him to be a citizen?
