Abstract EN

This study aimed to investigate problem-based learning’s effectiveness in improving mathematical thinking skills and problem-solving ability.

The quasiexperimental method was used and applied to two groups: Experimental and controlled groups with a pre- and post-test.

The sample of the study consisted of 50 students in two ninth-grade classes.

On the one hand, the experimental class had 25 students who were taught using problem-based learning.

On the other hand, the controlled class had 25 students who were taught traditionally.

The study used the following tools: (1) Mathematical thinking test, (2) Problem-solving test.

The study results showed that there were statistically significant differences between the means of the grades of the experimental and the controlled groups in the post-test in favor of the experimental group in the mathematical thinking test and problemsolving test.

The researchers recommend and encourage training mathematics teachers and school mathematics supervisors to employ problem-based learning.
