Focusing on the functionality of the language in educational curricula has become imperative.

in this regard, our research begins in its theoretical part by shedding light on two key concepts, namely, the function of language and functionality, and any attempt to distinguish between them.

as well as clarifying the relationship between linguistic communication and the functionality of the Arabic language, and finally, on the practical side, we monitored and evaluated the functional trends of the Arabic language curriculum in the intermediate stage.

this is to address a major problem : what is the importance of the second generation curriculum for the Arabic language in its functional value ? as for the importance of the research, it is to evaluate the functional teaching of the Arabic language.

and strengthen the communicative dimension in her education.

among the most important findings is that the second generation Arabic curriculum in the intermediate phase is keen to teach the Arabic language as a means of communication.

this is done by focusing on content related to the learner's life.

among the recommendations advocated by the research is the necessity of adopting the Arabic language curricula periodically with the developments in the learner’s life and reality.
