Abstract EN

The study aims to investigating the effect of emotional condition and modality (audio, visual) on creating false memory among Yarmouk University students in Jordan.

The study used experimental design through a sample consisted of (120) university students selected using available sampling method and distributed randomly into three equal groups based on the emotional condition (positive condition, neutral condition, negative condition).

The study developed and used McDermott-Watson Lists (2001), Task Emotion Induction (TEI), and Recognition Memory Test.

The results showed that there is a statistically significant effect of the emotional condition and the modality on the immediate and recognition memory test, meaning that there is an effect of the emotional condition and the modality on creating the false memory, where the negative emotional condition was more productive of the false memory compared to those of the neutral, while the positive emotional condition was the least productive of the false memory, as the means scores of the performance on the recognition memory test were lower than others when students were exposed to a positive emotional condition.

Furthermore, the results also showed that the visual modality reduces the creation of false memory compared to the audio modality.
