All professions in the world such as medicine, law and education have some rules, principles and values organizing their vocational fields as part of their usual professional practice.

translation is an art, a science, a skill and also one of the oldest professions that imposed itself in spite of the different conflicts it went through in its quest for identity.

and yet, until recently, it has been recognized by means of a number of international conventions and agreements that accepted the translation activity as a specialty on its own, and the translator as a professional like the doctor, the lawyer and the teacher, etc.

hence, with regard to the fact that each profession has its ethical rules, our study seeks to open the scope of reflection on the ethics of translation through an analysis of the translator's charter adopted by the international federation of translators at the congress of Dubrovnik on 1963 and amended in Oslo on 1994, focusing on the ethics of translation and the prospects of its professional practice in Algeria.
