Iraqi instructors' perceptions of using information and communication technologies in teaching English as a foreign language

Abstract EN

Information and communication technologies are causing a rapid shift in society.

they have an impact on almost all aspects of life.

the impacts are becoming increasingly prominent in classrooms.

since they provide both students and instructors with more possibilities to adjust learning and teaching to special needs and requirements, society is urging institutions to effectively and efficiently respond to these new innovations.

the current study aims at investigating Iraqi instructors' perceptions of using information and communication technologies in teaching English as a foreign language.

it also discusses the obstacles that affect their employment in the process of teaching.

in order to obtain the aims of the study, the researcher adopted a quantitative research method via a questionnaire consisting of (18 items) for data collection.

after its validity and reliability were proven, it was targeted to a sample of 40 EFL instructors at colleges of basic education in Mustansiriyah and Maysan Universities during the academic year 2020-2021.

the results of the study have shown that Iraqi EFL instructors have positive attitudes towards using information and communication technologies in teaching.

However, they also demonstrate several challenges that should be taken into consideration while integrating ICT in the classroom.

Conclusions and a number of recommendations and suggestions for further studies have also been stated.
