Abstract EN

The Elizabethan theater, mainly the works of the English playwright William Shakespeare (1564-1616), occupied a central space in the theatre of the Kuwaiti director Suleiman AlBassam; this was evident when he presented his productions, which became famous as the “Arab Shakespeare Trilogy”, i.

e., “Hamlet” (Hamlet Conference), "Richard III" (Richard III...

an Arab Tragedy), and "Twelfth Night" (Dar Al-Falak).

This study is an examination of the “Arab Shakespeare Trilogy”; it sought to study and interpret the references on which Al-Bassam relied, specifically the method of “Cultural reproduction" associated with the French sociologist Pierre Bourdieu (1930-2002), given that theater is a worldwide language, that can only be achieved through the harmony of "space", dialogue, characters, lighting, costumes, music, and other theatrical elements.

The study focuses on how the Shakespearean text was "reproduced" by Al-Bassam and questions his methods to design a new and innovative "space" for an Elizabethan play, in a different society.

The study discusses also, Al-Bassam's authority as a director, when he reintroduced the aforementioned "trilogy".

The results of the study, present the limits and paths of Al-Bassam, to present his own Shakespeare, at the level of costumes, language, space etc.
