A voice command software agent (VCSA) and a hardware head controller for a manipulator arm are designed as a part of a research project.

The methodology adopted in speech agent is based on a spotted words recognition system based on a robust HMM (Hidden Markov Modei' technique with cepstral coefficients as parameters used in automatic speech recogniition system To implement the approach on a real-time application, a Personal Computer parallel port interface was designed to control the movement of a set of stepper motors and to get the security action from head movements.

The head controller (HC) is added as a secure control system n case there is any problem with VCSA.

The user can control the movements of four degree of freedom (DOT) for a robot arm using a vocal phrase containing spotted words or head controller.
