This article studies the impact that translation has had and is still having on Arabic.

The study shows that the process of translation has produced both positive and negative results.

Arabic has, for instance, been enriched by the addition of thousands of lexical items in science and technology through Arabicization and countless other terms in various fields through calquing or loan translation.

The negative impact of translation has been made manifest by its impact on the very structure of the Arabic language and in the way words are coined and combined together.

This negative aspect of translation is not limited to translations produced by incompetent translators who do not show sufficient respect for good Arabic but is spreading to original compositions in Arabic that often sound translated or even foreign.
