The present research aims at discovering the self-instructional practices followed by students at the Dept.
of English / College of Arts, to improve and develop their communicative competence in English language.
It also aims at discovering the significant differences between the target students in pointing out these practices with reference to two variables (sex and class).
One hundred and sixteen students were randomly assigned as the sample of research representing students at the two levels (second and fourth year).
A questionnaire of (18) items of three alternatives (always , sometimes, rarely) was prepared by the researcher and applied to measure these practices.
The research detected a relation between self-instructional practices and the two variables (sex and class).
In the light of the finding, some recommendations were eventually by researcher.
