The paper stresses the importance of peer interaction in classroom setting for effective and rapid learning of English as a foreign language.
It describes the factors and forces that create obstacles in the way of peer interaction and thus prevent students from acquiring required proficiency in the English Language within the specific period of time.
The paper also provides suggestions and recommendations for promoting peer interaction in the classroom through a variety of teaching-learning activities, through innovative techniques of teaching through opportunities which can stimulate and motivate students to learn better and retain longer what they learn.
The immediate context of the paper is the state of Taiz University, but the recommendations proposed are valid for other universities and institutions where a foreign language is taught and learnt.
