English Abstract

This study consists of two parts.

The first part aimed at investigating teachers' attitudes towards reflective teaching and its task types: teaching diaries (journals), teaching portfolios, peer observation and action research in cycle 2 of Basic Education schools in Al' Batinah- North.

The second part of the study aimed at analyzing the quality of the teachers practices of two tasks : teaching diaries and teaching portfolios with respect to the specification of a typical teaching diaries which are suggested by related literature.

This study is important to clarify the concept of reflective teaching and its importance in the professional growth of the teachers currently in Oman.

The findings of this study revealed that English teachers who are teaching in cycle 2 of Basic Education Schools have positive attitudes towards reflective teaching and its tasks.

It also revealed that teaching diaries and teaching portfolios are not correctly used by teachers in cycle 2 of Basic Education schools.

In relation to the findings, the study recommended that more attention need to be given to the content of teaching diaries and teaching portfolios in pre-service and in-service teacher training in the Sultanate of Oman as well as following the impact of this training by supervisors and principals.
