English Abstract

Ten Mannich bases were synthesized via a general protocol involving the condensation of an active hydrogen compound with different primary and secondary amines in presence of formalin.Thus the following targeted series of ketonic and phenolic Mannich adducts were synthesized:-- 2-acetamidomethyl-4-acetamidophenol (I) N,N-[(5-acatamido-hydroxy)benzyl]acetamide (II) - N-[(5-acatamido-2-hydroxy)benzyl]methylamine (III) -N,N-[(5-acatamido-2-hydroxy)benzyl]methylamine (IV) - N,N-[(5-acatamido-2-hydroxy)benzyl]ethylamine (V) - N-[(5-acatamido-2-hydroxy)benzyl]ethylamine (VI) -N-[(5-acatamidohydroxy)benzylmethylanilinomethylamine (VII) -1-phenyl-3-(pyrrolidin-1-yl)propan-1one (VIII) -1-phenyl-3-(dimethylamino)propan1-one (IX) -2-pyrrolidinomethylcyclohexanone (X).

The structures of the targeted molecules were deduced on the basis of their spectral data (UV, IR,NMR and MS).

The series of targeted molecules were screened for their antibacterial and antifungal potential and significant activity was observed for most of the Mannich bases.

Hence these Mannich adducts are suitable molecules for further optimization.
