English Abstract
Translating the meaning of a religious text is a cumbersome linguistic activity practiced by Muslim and non-Muslim translators and scholars.
Though the practice is old, not all works proved to be adequate to the original Holy Text. This study investigates eight translations to the meaning of the last twenty Suras of Part Thirty of the Noble Qur'an, produced by two groups of Muslim and non-Muslim translators.
The study falls within five chapters.
The first chapter is an introduction to the significance of the study, the material and sets three hypotheses to be tested.
The second chapter is a review of related literature.
The third chapter sets the methodology and procedures of collected data, and chapter four analyses and evaluates them. Three hypotheses were set: translations of the meaning of the Noble Qur'an do not conform to translation standard theories, these translations failed to reflect the grammatical and the connotative meanings of the source text, and non-Muslim translators are unable to reproduce better translations than Muslim translators.
Hypotheses one and two are accepted while the third is rejected.
On chapter five, conclusions were drawn, recommendations were offered and suggestions for further research were given.
