Abstract AR
Abstract EN
Background : The role of antioxidant vitamins and minerals has become a point of interest for their | importance in prevention of cancer and other systemic diseases.
Objectives : The aim of the present investigation was to investigate the effect of antioxidants (vitamins A and C and Selenium) supplementation separately or in combination on the lingual mucous membrane and salivary glands of aging rats.
Materials and Methods : Fifty young adult male albino rats were used and divided into 5 equal groups.
Group I : control group.
Groups II, III and IV animals received vitamin A, vitamin C and selenium diet, respectively for the whole experimental period.
Group V animals received combined vitamin A, C and Selenium in the same doses given to groups II, III, and IV respectively.
Results : Results revealed that consuming antioxidant vitamins as vitamin A or vitamin C or trace elements as selenium separately partially modulates the action of the aging process and increases the regenerative capacity of mucous membrane and salivary glands of the tongue.
Consuming combined vitamin A, C and selenium had a powerful and beneficial synergizing anti-aging effect on the aforementioned structures.
