Abstract EN

This research paper deals with the Topographic characteristics of the location of the residential areas in the Palestinian governorate of Jenin in comparison on the Israeli settlements in the same goverorate.

It also studies and analyses the Topographic characteristics of the residential areas in the Palestinian governorate of Jenin in coparision of Israeli settlements situated among those areas.

The research relied for the purpose of the study on available maps.

(contour maps and Settlement maps) as well as on relevant Palestinian statistics.

The paper is divided into a number of topics.

The first tackles the objectives and instruments of the present research; the second introduces the Palestinian residential areas in the Palestinian governorate of Jenin and the Israeli settlements in the area; while the third deals with the Topographic characteristics of both the Palestinian residential areas and the Israeli settlements in the governorate.

The research reached a number of conclusions, most salient of which are the finding that the Israeli settlements are situated upon elevated areas that are much higher than the Palestinian ones which lie on sloping areas and accordingly the Israeli settlement are in full control of those Palestinian areas and of the vital road junctures leading to and from those areas, as became clear during Al-Aqsa Intifada.

It also found that a short distance separates the Israeli settlement, which are situated on elevations far above the sea-level, compared to the Palestinian areas.
