English Abstract

This study aimed to evaluate the performance of English language teachers in using the questioning techniques with regard to some variables in Abu Dhabi Basic Schools; mainly kinds and levels of the questions.

The sample of the study consisted of twenty male teachers (ten novice and ten experienced) teachers.

The instrument of the study consisted of a checklist of three types and levels of questions in order to show the difference between the novice and experienced teachers (who have less than one year and those who have more than one year and less than five years of experience) in the types and levels of questioning techniques.

The results of the study showed that novice teachers do not have enough skills to use higher levels of questioning techniques.

They used more questions that are classified within the lower and middle levels, whereas experienced teachers who hold in addition to B.A a higher diploma use more questions of higher level of questions and less middle and low levels.

The results of the study are discussed with a presentation of the most important recommendations regarding novice and experienced teachers, school principals and supervisors.
