Abstract EN

Starting from the belief that extensive reading is an effective and pleasurable way for EFL students to learn to read, this article establishes a working definition of extensive reading as a language teaching / learning procedure.

Based on “the top ten principles for teaching extensive reading” proposed by Day and Bamford (2002), the present work explores the most important features that characterize ‘pleasure reading’, and sheds light on the beneficial effect that it can have on learning a foreign language.
