Abstract EN
The word ‘teaching’ literally means giving lessons to, educating instructing, tutoring and training.
So the teacher is an instructor, educator, tutor and trainer. Doctor is a Latin term with the same meaning i.e.
teacher. Physicians are often required to teach.
They may teach medical and nursing students, trainees learning to be medical specialist in the future, colleagues who need continuous education as well as patients and society.
They should inform their patients and society and clearly guide them in order to change their behavior for better prevention of illnesses and promotion health care.
A review of history of medicine shows that great physicians were also eminent teachers.
Unfortunately not all these expectations can be met because there few doctors who are well trained in teaching? On the other hand, doctors are usually busy and have little time to think properly about educational philosophy in medicine and then apply it to their daily leaching tasks. Herein is an overview that describes the basic principles of effective teaching for a medical teacher.
Obviously, the issue of patients’ education is a different subject and not included
